Professional conduct, respected.

  • We don't practice law, period. Konnect provides HR operational services. We don't render legal opinions, we don't give legal advice, and we don't represent clients in proceedings. When your client needs counsel, that's you.
  • We work under counsel direction. When there's active litigation, an investigation, or a sensitive matter, Konnect operates under attorney work-product privilege when engaged through your firm. The investigation, documentation, and remediation work product belongs to the engagement you direct.
  • Our partner program respects your bar's rules. Default rewards are service credit toward your firm's own HR services, or pure reciprocal referrals (you send us HR work, we send you legal work). No money changes hands unless you specifically request a cash arrangement that complies with your jurisdiction's professional conduct rules.
  • We refer legal work back to you. Our HR clients regularly need employment counsel. Referring attorneys who send Konnect business get first call when our clients need a lawyer.

EEOC charge, DFEH complaint, NLRB filing, or DOL audit just landed. The legal work is yours. The handbook update, manager retraining, documentation cleanup, and ongoing compliance posture is ours.

Internal investigations

Harassment complaint, discrimination claim, retaliation allegation. We conduct the investigation under your direction with attorney work-product protection, deliver a written report, and handle the operational response.

Pre-litigation hardening

Client is preparing for a likely claim or class action. We audit the underlying HR exposure (FLSA classifications, leave practices, wage and hour, handbook adequacy) and fix what's fixable before discovery.

M&A due diligence

Buy-side or sell-side. We do the HR diligence (employee files, classifications, open claims, handbook, multi-state compliance) so the deal team can focus on the legal and financial pieces.

Workforce reductions and severance

RIF planning, WARN compliance support, severance template review, separation administration. You handle the legal exposure analysis. We handle the operational rollout and employee communications.

    Use the form below or send Jamie a direct email. Tell us the situation, what role you want us to play (independent engagement, work alongside your firm, or under your firm's direction), and how you want us to introduce ourselves.

    We coordinate with you first

    Before contacting your client, we confirm with you whether the engagement is direct (us with the client) or indirect (us as your firm's vendor on this matter). For active matters, indirect through your firm preserves work-product protection.

    Status updates at 30, 60, 90 days

    You always know where the engagement stands. If your client signs an ongoing Konnect HR Services agreement, you'll know within a week.

    Reward earned per your firm's preference

    Service credit toward your firm's own HR services is the default. Reciprocal referrals (we send you legal work) is always available. Cash arrangements available on request where your jurisdiction permits.

The questions employment counsel asks first.

Are referral fees from non-lawyer service providers allowed under my bar's rules?

In most states, yes, with conditions. The rules that govern this are typically ABA Model Rules 5.4(a) and 7.2(b) and their state equivalents. Most states permit reciprocal referrals (where the arrangement is non-exclusive and disclosed to the client). Many states permit cash compensation from non-lawyer service providers as long as you comply with the disclosure and non-exclusivity requirements. A few states (notably New York, Texas, and California) have additional or stricter requirements. Konnect is not a law firm and cannot give legal advice on this. Consult your bar's ethics counsel before entering any cash arrangement. Most attorney partners select service credit or reciprocal referrals to sidestep the issue entirely.

Can Konnect operate under attorney-client privilege or work-product protection?

When engaged through your firm rather than directly with the client, Konnect operates as your firm's vendor, which generally extends work-product protection to the work we produce at your direction. We sign confidentiality agreements that match the engagement structure. For active litigation, we strongly recommend the indirect engagement structure so that investigations, audits, and documentation are properly protected.

Will Konnect ever take legal positions on my client's behalf?

No. We don't render legal opinions, we don't represent clients in legal proceedings, and we don't issue determinations on the legality of conduct. We provide HR operational services: documentation, investigations conducted by trained investigators, policy work, training rollout, day-to-day HR coverage. Where the line gets blurry, we defer to you.

What happens if my client tries to ask Konnect for legal advice?

We refer them back to you. Every Konnect HR engagement includes a written acknowledgment that Konnect is not a law firm. When clients ask us legal questions, we tell them to ask their attorney, and if they don't have one, we recommend referring counsel from our partner network, you included.

How does the service credit option work?

Your firm's HR needs (handbook, employee onboarding, harassment training for partners and associates, multi-state policies if you have offices in different states) are real. Service credit converts each closed referral into credit your firm can use against your own Konnect engagement. Tier amounts depend on the size of the referred client and are detailed in your Attorney Partner Agreement.

What if I just want reciprocal referrals, no money or credit involved?

That's the cleanest arrangement and we welcome it. We sign a non-exclusive reciprocal referral agreement: you send us HR clients who need ongoing services, we send you legal clients who need employment counsel. No money changes hands. No conduct rule complications. Just deal flow in both directions.

When does a cash referral arrangement pay out?

If you select the cash option and your jurisdiction permits it, the cash bonus is paid 30 days after your referred client's 6th month as an active Konnect client. Reported on Form 1099. Tiered by client size. Paid by direct deposit or check, your preference.
